Coway factory in Yugu

Completed in April 1994, Coway’s Yugu Factory was expanded in 1995. To make the factory the largest consumer electronics manufacturing site in the world, Coway started construction of a filter manufacturing plant on the Yugu Factory premises in October 1997. The filter production facility is a Programmable Logic Controller-based automated facility with annual production capacity of 1.44 million units.

As of 2009, the Yugu Factory consists of nine water filtration device lines, four air purifier lines, nine filter lines and a carbon block line. The factory has a building area of 1,2859.98sqm and a floor area of 20,450.79sqm.

The factory has an annual production capacity of 1.44 million water filtration device, 780,000 air purifiers and 16.2 million filters. Through efficient location of human resources, multi-functionality and focused production have been realized at the factory. Coway spares no efforts to enhance competitiveness at the factory, with an aim of achieving zero waste, defects and breakdowns, thereby improving productivity and quality and cutting coats.

Through the introduction of a producer name attaching system that achieves zero-fault production renovation, and an Environmental R&D Center and WARC (Water Analysis & Research Center) that conduct various water inspection tests before products are put on the market, Coway guarantee that its products are of the highest quality.
Incheon Factory

The Incheon factory focuses on the production of electric home goods such as bidet, rice cookers, humidifier, vacuum cleaners and other product models. It is capable of producing 400,000 bidets, 600,000 electric pressure multi-cooker, 400,000 vacuum and 400,000 humidifier cleaners a year through its six production lines. Based on its technology and accumulated know-how, the Incheon factory will expand its product line to include other electric home appliances and well-being goods.

The Technology

R&D Center
Coway has established its first R&D center in 1993 before begins its fctory production in 1994. In December 2006, Coway firmed a partnership with Seoul National University, a top ranking university in Korea, to further develop technology driven products utilizing both industrial and academy knowledge.

The R&D Center with 6 stories above ground, 2 stories below and 12,208m2 in floor space is located within Seoul National University’s research district. To date, Coway is one of only three companies to have R&D facilities at the university follow by Samsung and SK Telecom.

Total of KRW 58 billion was invested for the R&D Center, which is equipped with 182 cutting-edge devices such as high-tech research facilities including Environmental Analysis Center appointed by Han River Basin Environmental Office as “Drinking Water Quality Inspection Institution” and certified as KOLAS international testing lab for water quality, 45 laboratories, a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) measurement chamber, a dead room for noise Measurement, and wind tunnel measuring equipment.

R&D centre at Coway place priority on improving consumer convenience rather than improve profit of company. It is founded on consumer-centric system that exhaustively identifies and discovers consumer needs in product development.

Coway prides itself on adhering to the most stringent quality control, thus receiving the Reduction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) Certificate of Compliance. As of the end of 2009, total 250 R& D researchers consist of doctorate, master and bachelor degree holders pursue well-being culture with products improving the quality of life.
 
 

The Design

"De+Novation"

Understanding the importance of researching prior design, Coway has held design exhibition called “De+Novation” every year as a venue at which vision may be suggested.

A design forum has also been held which consists of external design experts as a way to seek diverse perspectives on design. Moreover, the company has establish an information infrastructure. 

As a result, just in a single year since initiating design management, the company was honored with the Presidential Award at the 9th Korea Design Awards in the category if design management.

In 2008, Coway swept the world-renowned design award including Germany’s iF Award, red dot Design Award and the IDEA Awards in the United States. These achievements represented the first ever design award grand slam for a Korea home wellness appliances manufacturer.

In 2009, the Presidential Council on Nation Branding selected Woongjin Coway as a consumer brand which improves has won accolades from the red dot Design Award since 2007, when the Award started to issue design certificates.

Among eleven products submitted, eight obtained a design certificates, clear evidence of Coway’s global top-class design quality. 











Coway Story

Coway is the top consumer and household electronics company in Korea. Since it establishment in 1989, we have taken the lead in expanding and advancing the market. Having won recognition for its products and service quality both at home and abroad, Coway started to diversity its product portfolio in the mid-1990s to become a household electronics company in real sense.

The company has extended its product lineup from water filtration appliances to air purifiers, bidets, water softeners and food waste disposers, which improve the quality of our customers' lives and preserve the environment.

In the time since its establishment, Coway has consistently grown while maintaining transparency an ethics management principles. In 1998, we introduced a rental business model for the first time in the industry and provide before sales service by service representative call "Cody". As a result, Coway has topped the Gallup polls recent years in terms of market share, customer satisfaction and brand awareness. Since mid-2000s, the company has actively made forays into the global market to become a leading global household electronics company, while strengthening our domestic position.

As present, we operate five overseas subsidiaries which is Malaysia was one of it, one branch and a logistics center in Netherlands, and continue to increase exports and build a strong foundation for sustainable growth. In particular, from 2009, we have bolstered our position as a sustainable company by focusing on green management, thereby implementing customer value management and contributing to the sustainable development of humankind.

To date, there are more than 40,000 customers in Malaysia and the number is rapidly growing.
Company Vision

On the company's 20th anniversary in May 2009, Coway declared its vision of "The 1st Green Global Leader which Designs a Healthy Tomorrow" and selected confidence, respect, integrity, passion, speed and action and cooperation as its core values. Moreover, the company designated 2009 as the initial year of customer value management by holding the service innovation declaration ceremony.

Coway set its goal of becoming a customer service provider as a consumer electronics manufacturer and defined action plans and core values in accordance with this goal. In particular, the core values were items that gained more than 50 percent support ~ two-third of all Coway employees ~ from participants of a company survey.
